xxcopyiers: Over the past 3 to 4 weeks I have been experiencing a SLOW DOWN on my WIN98SE laptop Computer. I happen to have a license from PC-Cillin from TrendMicro; I downloaded their non user version and scanned for viruses - none found, I tried Grisoff.com free download and none found. I even downloaded XXPE2846.zip and installed it (I have paid the fee for 3 cpu's) When I started using xxcopy last fall (2002) A full backup of my 3 computers took about 22 hours for 28 GB. I tried to xxcopy /clone just my laptop to a blank directory (on the 60 GB drive over the network) starting on the 6th July copying 3GB and I stopped it after 38 hours and only 1.110 GB were copied. I keep hearing that there was a virus in the last month that replaced a couple of files (or programs) in c:\windows or c:\windows\system and the speed dramatically drops. I do not know what files are effected. And I am concerned that my laptop was supplied with a recovery CD. Since this problem occurred, I have attempted to run a backup twice and believe that the infected files have been overlaid on the backup. I could live with a complete replacement of the operating system as all user added programs on the laptop are duplicates of programs on my host desktop which also runs under WIN98SE. The Laptop is a product from China manufactured for the US market in 2001. I am not sure what the technique is to replace the complete system on a laptop from a recovery CD. Can anyone confirm with some authority as to what I have said about the 'so called virus' This is definitely NOT an XXCOPY problem. But you xxcopyiers are experienced enough suggest which course of action to take. 1) Replace the whole system from the recovers CD, 2) Locate and replace only the infected files (preferred method - if I knew what files were infected) 3) Another idea. I thank you (in advance) for your interest in my problem. D G Connett [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
