That's correct if the NTFS drive is installed directly in the w98 PC although there are programs that will provide NTFS support to w98 e.g. from www.sysinternals.com. The original poster was referring to an NTFS drive on an XP system which was connected via a network and mapped drive to a FAT32 drive on the w98 system. In that situation, except for minor differences between the file systems, there's no problem reading/writing the drives in either direction. The OS for each PC takes care of the low level access to the hardware and file system at its own end and translates the file accesses into hardware neutral messages that are passed across the network.
