XXCOPY allows incremental backup but you still need software to burn the backup to CD. That is unless you use Cd burning software that uses packet writing which most users have found to be unreliable. Then there is an issue of file attributes being changed when you burn them to cd. If you use compression you may also have issues with long file names. If you are brave you can use a program like AXcrypt that both encrypts and compresses your files. You can the use the program ChainSaw to split the files in chunks that will fit on a cd. This way you can restore all of your files if you have a bootable system and a your OS software. Both ChainSaw and AXcrypt are freeware. So the string of events is xxcopy your entire system to a file then Axcrypt the file. Then chain saw the file. Then burn it to CD. Make sure that you have have a second copy of AXcrypt, Chainsaw and your password kept separately so you don't get in a bind. Axcrypt tends to shrink an XP system by about one third while providing a very secure password system. --- Sam wrote: > Hi all, > > Hope you can help... it has been a long time since > I've used the DOS > prompt (last time was DOS 5) and I am having > problems.
