Hi Garry - I've now had time to try out your batch file (below) & it worked a treat. All files were eventually copied using XXcopy16 but it took 1.5 hours to clone 1.12Gb !!! Long filenames were truncated to abcdef~1.* of course, but after running a great little (unknown?) utility called DOSLFNBK, all my shortened filenames were back with their correct long filenames. That took just a few seconds to complete. I found running XXcopy /NL just didn't do the job. So, for devotees of XXCOPY who have been put off using XXcopy16, there is now a neat solution to the filename problem! The utility can be downloaded from the author's site:- www.murdoch-sutherland.com/programs/doslfnbk.htm#downloading - scroll well down to get the download link. PS - has anyone any idea why the Progess Bar hangs, when used in a batch file? At least it does in mine, when using XXCOPY under Win98SE in a Dos box. Thanks again Garry for your excellent help. If the test of the LFN restore utility doesn't work, use: xxcopy /NL //Renames longname to match the source Garry
