Hi, All. We are pleased to announce that the XXCLONE project has come a long way and we now have a version which is believed to be sufficiently safe and stable that those who want to test it are welcome to give a try. http://www.xxclone.com Documentation is available at http://www.xxclone.com/betatest/technote.htm This page is password-protected. username: guineapig password: AboutTime Since we want to add several more key features before we call it a product, it has a 30-day expiration mechanism. We anticipate frequent update in the weeks to come. Here's a list of things to do: 1. Support of Win95/98/ME (Currently, it is good for Win NT4/2K/XP) 2. Transfer of security info (not done at all yet) 3. Transfer of all "open/blocked" files to the target. 4. Support of system disk cloning from 2nd disk to 3rd disk. (Currently, the source volume must be the active volume). 5. Help button. Since this program has been tested only by a handful of users outside our labs, there is a risk of making your system seriously damaged (may make it non-bootable), please take precautions until you feel safe on your system. That is, please try it only with a system that has full backup on all important files on removable media. Once you feel comfortable with how it works on your test environment, you may use it in day-to-day use. The reason for this extra caution is due to the fact the program accesses the disk sectors using low-level device I/O (to modify the MBR, boot sector, etc.). On the other hand, XXCLONE does not access the FAT area or directory structures using low-level I/O. That is, the low-level disk accesses are kept to an absolute minimum. The rest of the operation is pretty much like how we program in XXCOPY. If you are concerned about the worst-case scenario, you may wait for a week or so until some intrepid users report positive results in here. Please do not post this message to other more popular site for the time being. This is still a private, sneak preview of our new product. You may either post your experience with this product in this forum, or send me a private Email. Thanks. Kan Yabumoto
