(note: the term 'activate' below is meant in a generic sense with regard to bootability/functionality rather than the windows-specific registration type of activation.) A basic question is to what extent the integrity of an xp system-partition (B-destination) is altered by using XXCLONE option 4 to xxclone-activate it using another xp system-partition (A-source), where the two partitions A and B are not intended to be clones of one another. This question relates to the apparent need to use xxclone to 'activate' the clone of a fully-functional xp system-partition that was previously archived either using xxcopy or partition magic or ghost and is now being restored. The source volume for the activation would be a newer xp installation that contains a different set of installed applications and configurations than the previously-cloned partition. XXCLONE option 4 indicates that an xp partition is made independently functional/bootable by copying the various registry files from A to B. My impression was that using xp partition A to xxclone xp partition B affects features on B such as desktop settings and various configuration settings but may not negate the presence of applications that were installed on B but were not installed on A. The transfer of the registry files seems like a pretty extensive alteration for the purpose of getting B to be independently functional (especially where an image had been taken of what had previously been a fully functional partition) suggesting that there may be future refinements if it can be determined whether there are some specific setting within the registry files that need to be modified rather than copy over all the registry files??
