To save Kan some needless work, I want to announce as soon as 
possible that the trouble messages and other problems have stopped.

Here's what I did:

Following garrydean's suggestion about having older versions of 
xxclone on my hdd, I removed all instances of xxclone and then re-
installed version 0.20.1.

I am now enjoying success with no more error messages. I have run 
three sessions so far with no problems.

Additionally, xxclone is no longer running as a "stuck" session, so I 
no longer need to manually halt xxclone in order to run it again.

Two questions now:
1: when running a xxclone session should I always allow boot to the 
target drive to complete step three? (the new ver 0.20.1 appears to 
run steps one and two transparently.

2: how do I edit the boot.ini file so the machine will normall always 
boot to the original drive?
