Jim, Garry and Kan. My comments were in the context that I had not seen email on that apparent xxclone bug prior to Dec 15 (somewhat reinforced by Pat's reference to it as an open question posted to the group and Garry's comment that Kan was already aware of it). If I missed an earlier posting where this was addressed, my apologies although I was really just asking for clarification regarding my impression of Garry's comment. Jim, your selective quotes of my comments were I think changing them from questions to statements which was not the content of my comments. As yourself and others, I have sometime made initial comments to Kan offline and don't consider that a problem (nor would I characterize them as secret discussions). If there were known bugs I was just encouraging that they be identified even if xxclone has beta status. Jim, I think you're just saying that your understanding is that any material known problems have been communicated to the Beta user group. Pat has written about this issue a number of times. Most of the responses were "just fix it and move on", but IIRC Kan did at one point acknowledge that there might be a bug. I don't know where you get the idea that any "potential bugs" were not "communicated to the email group" or that "there are other known problems that the group was not yet aware of." (Every piece of software has "potential bugs"!) With word of the usefulness of XXCopy and XXClone spreading, the traffic on the group has increased, so it's hard to keep up with everything -- but I'm not aware that anyone in this group is involved with "secret discussions." (I even sent a private message reporting an error in the wording of some XXCopy output, thinking that Kan could just fix it and no one would notice [as they'd never noticed that it was wrong]. Kan replied to the whole group, so even though I had thought it'd be easier to keep it private, that's not Kan's way.) J. Was this bug with XXCLONE previously identified in the email group? I don't recall seeing an earlier email. Could you please elaborate on what circumstances result in some files becoming hidden files. If bugs are identified off-line is there an immediate communication to the email group? I have been using XXCLONE to make a backup copy and then in some cases (e.g. a software installation messing up) discarding the original and proceeding with the xxclone version? Are there other known bugs where the cloned copy is not identical to the original?? If so, it would be helpful to maybe see a list to see what surprises might be down the road in relying on the xxcloned copy. Thanks, Dan
