Kan, one further clarification. The XP source partition (that does not app= ear) should be the F drive (a logical drive that is the 15th partition on t= he master boot drive) and not the primary C drive which contains only the b= oot.ini file. The following would be the content of the boot.ini file: [Boot Loader] timeout=3D10 Default=3Dmulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(15)\WINDOWS [Operating Systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(14)\WINDOWS=3D" not used yet - D0-P14" /fa= stdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(15)\WINDOWS=3D" WIN-XP MAIN --- D0-P15" /= fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(16)\WINDOWS=3D" Pg 313 - D0-P16" /fastdet= ect ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Dan Anderson=20 To: xxcopy@yahoogroups.com=20 Sent: Sunday, December 28, 2003 10:45 AM Subject: Re: [xxcopy] Re: XXCLONE -> XP Source not detected Thanks Kan. The situation seems strange. Other than not being able to use the xxclone function to activate a backu= p XP partition on the slave drive, and other than the "xxclone.dat" anomali= es, my new installation seems to be working okay, dual-booting into XP and = W98 on the master drive and able to remove and install software and burn a = CD.=20=20 Maybe the anomalous info in xxclone.dat is part of the xxclone glitch rat= her than identifying an underlying problem? Is there any alternative indep= endent verification that I could run with regard to the strange info in xxc= lone.dat? The only really significant change in my operating environment is droppin= g W95 and shifting from a pair of 30GB-40GB WD drives (the 40GB drive had b= een formatted to a 32GB size) to a pair of 120GB WD drives. The 120GB driv= es were a boxing day special for $80 Canadian net of rebate. As noted bef= ore, I'm running a Dell Dimension XPS T450. For both the 120GB drives, I simply used Partition Magic 8.0 (from within= an XP environment on the original 30GB drive) to partition them and copy o= ver primary and logical partitions (no other type of formatting preparation= seemed necessary), then used xxclone from the 30GB drive to successfully a= ctivate the logical XP partition on the master 120GB drive ... I could prob= ably have done the same with the slave 120GB drive but was intrigued that I= could not successfully run xxclone from within XP on the master 120GB driv= e.=20=20 Dan =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D ----- Original Message ----- From: Kan Yabumoto XXCOPY tech To: Sent: Sunday, December 28, 2003 4:31 AM Subject: Re: [Fwd: Re: [xxcopy] Re: XXCLONE -> XP Source not detected] Dear Dan: Thank you for sending me your new XXCLONE.DAT file. But the contents are rather funny. The C: drive as you say is missing fr= om the Volume List even though it is shown in the Partition List (which is = constructed by scanning the system registry). Another interesting is that the Volume list section had the [d:0,p:1] ...= (which is for disk 0 --- signature value =3D 0x7fd84862. And, disk 1 is a= lso shown as W:. Since Disk 0 and Disk 1 is already taken, the disk that C= : belongs has to be either Disk 2 or higher. I'm scratching my head for an= explanation which I do not have right now.
