Happy New Year! Has anyone else encountered an error-condition with CHKDSK /p when testing a cloned (logical) XP partition created using XXCLONE? I was getting some glitches (noted earlier) and found that when I ran CHKDSK /P (after setting up XP's Window's Recovery Console as a boot-time option via boot.ini), an error message was produced that said there were "one or more unrecoverable problems". There is no further guidance given by CHKDSK. Running SCANDISK against that partition from within W98 does not identify a problem. I have tried creating four other XP partitions on that hard-drive but they all show the same problem with CHKDSK. The only real glitch that I had encountered, which originally led me to trying CHKDSK /P, was trying to run XXCLONE from within that xxclone-created XP partition (I had transferred my system to a 120GB WD hard drive and now wanted to make a secondary backup partition) and finding that XXCLONE did not recognize my XP partition at all and so I could not specify it as the source partition. Everything else about the XP partition seems okay, including burning a CD and working with DVDs. Note that when I ran CHKDSK with no parameters, it said that it did not see any problems (and so did not run). The error message appears only when specifying the /P or /R parameters. As noted earlier, I'm running a Dell Dimension Pention III 450 and use bootmagic do dual boot Win98SE and XP. For XP, I have a small primary partition containing the XP boot.ini file, and have a much larger logical partition that contains the XP Windows directory and various installed programs. Is CHKDSK /P okay for other beta testers? particularly anyone using a harddrive greater than 64GB (the original tolerance limit for W98SE's FDISK ... I used Partition Magic 8 to partition, rather than FDISK) ? If no one else has this same problem, then I'll keep poking away on my own. Thanks, Dan
