Bob, that's a good suggestion for purposes of batch runs in situations where a warning message is important. Batch runs would also not be affected in situations where XXCLONE did not need to overwrite a pre-existing MBR (and therefore no warning message was needed) -- e.g. when both the source and destination XP (logical) partitions are on the same boot hard drive -- the MBR would still just continue to reference the small primary partition that contains the boot.ini file that XXCLONE can update, once the problem has been resolved with regard to the XXCLONE partition count recognizing any other (hidden) primary partitions that are present). regards Dan =================================== ----- Original Message ----- From: Bob Weir To: Sent: Sunday, January 04, 2004 4:10 PM Subject: Re: [xxcopy] XXCLONE and MBRs Dan Anderson wrote about whether or not to overwrite the disk MBR by default. An awkward choice! As an ME (xxcopy.../clone) user I can only lurk in blissful ignorance on the XXCLONE discussions but I would expect a warning screen such as; - "Click [continue] for XXCLONE to update the boot (start-up) record on your source drive (recommended). If you use multi-boot software (may cause problems) click [skip]" This will irritate those who schedule (automate) the operations and this may be preferred: - "XXCLONE will update the boot record on your source drive in 10 seconds. If you use multi-boot software (may cause problems) click [skip]" I presume that there is, or will be, some way for an "intermediate" user who can cope with any unpredictable consequences to add BC0 to a scheduled XXCLONE operation. regards, Bob --------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe eMail to: Or to post a message, send eMail to --------------------------------------------------------------- Yahoo!
