Ron, pending a response from others, these are some initial thoughts. I guess this happened after you used XXCLONE (from C) to create a bootable XP partition on F. I'm guessing that in all your steps you had not changed which hard drive was your boot drive (the one containing C) and the C boot.ini file has now been directing you to boot into F as the default XP partition rather than using the C windows directory etc. If you open the C boot.ini file with a text editor you can see how it does that. The simple answer might be to go into SETUP when you boot the computer and change which hard drive is your primary boot drive. Then it will boot into F but using the F boot.ini file. I expect you would then be able to format the other hard drive (losing both C and D), but that does not really seem necessary since you have the alternative of running XXCLONE from F with F as your source and C as your destination, and for D you have the option of running xxcopy to update it based on the current contents of G. Whatever you do, keep an eye on the contents of both C and/or F boot.ini files (depending which will be on your boot hard drive) so that you can see what is happening and which is the correct option. Good luck. System is XP Pro. My HD is divided into to partitions, "C" for windows files and "D" for everything else. After making a complete bootable backup to my drive ("F" for windows and "G" for everything else) I never noticed (because I didn't pay attention to boot selection) that when starting the machine would always boot from "F". But all updates and files dowsnloads were on drive "D" were updated and the original Windows on "C" was never updated. So drive "F" (on backup drive) was updated and drive "D" on original HD was updated. I tried to format "C" so I could use XXCLONE to copy "F" back to drive "C" but it will not allow me to. Any simple suggestions before I remove this drive and format it completely or did I totally confuse everyone? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ron Hossack rhossack@c... --------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe eMail to: Or to post a message, send eMail to --------------------------------------------------------------- Yahoo!
