Hi Harold, I wasn't sure if you were referring to both items but I've addressed both: 1 - changing colour of the desktop - (doing this from memory right now as I'm in W98 but I think it is the same for XP) Right-click on an empty area of the desktop and select "properties", then under the "appearance" tab either choose a particular colour, or an alternate "scheme". 2 - identifier-icon on the desktop - Again right-click on an empty area of the desktop and select "new" and then, say, select "text document". That will create an icon on the desktop which you can rename as something like "XP-Harold2 -- Jan 5" (to rename, right click on the current name and select "rename"). The different colour in particular helps to identify if you have booted into the wrong partition. If you later rerun xxclone, any distinct settings on the destination partition will be over-written and you would need to remember to re-set the settings when you first boot into the revised destination partition. I would guess that running xxcopy (if you run it against the windows directories) would also affect the desktop settings.
