Although we seem to throw in everything into XXCOPY, we do believe in division of labor. If there is a well-designed mechanism that are in place, there is little reason for XXCOPY to stretch itself. Format the volume as an NTFS volume which allows you to set up the security related features as fancy as you want. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/reskit/prkc_fil_duwx.asp Go to the section entitled "Part III Security". Read Ch 15 Logon and Authentication Ch 16 Authorization and Access Control Ch 17 Encrypting File System I believe you get a very flexible and robust storage system. Once you set up the volume and particular directory with necessary security environment, you can use XXCOPY to write to and/or retrieve from the volume. (Note: Please don't ask me more about this. I have not used this. I just know the feature is there for you to study and exploit.) Kan Yabumoto
