Rather, it accesses the disk using the standard Win32 file I/O API and let the built-in low-level device drivers and other software components in the system perform their job in accessing the file info from the disk. When the system freezes or does something unusual, in nearly all cases, it is a result of some form of corrupt disk volume, or other system components such as anti-virus going wild (I aave you seen so many occasions that disabling/removing AntiVirus tool makes things work again). My first suggestion is to run ScanDisk (or a similar tool) to make sure that the volume in question is in a healthy state. XXCOPY is designed to be totally device-independent software and is unable to handle problems in the file system. That is, it is not a tool to diagnose or repair problems in the storage volume. It assumes that you have a reasonably reliable, healthy volume to start with. Kan Yabumoto
