That is, the OS is confused by not finding the right files or data in expected place and spewing its wild guess. Most likely, it is a result of looking at the wrong partition for the file. I am still very curious whether or not your target volume can be successfully booted from the floppy disk option. It will give us some clue as to whether the problem is confined to the initial steps or not. That is, if the target volume can be booted, it proves that the problem is one of the following areas: 1. MBR's boot code 2. Boot sector's program 3. NTLDR 4. BOOT.INI since all of these are supplied by the diskette, we can positively say the problem is one of this. It is my hunch that this is the case. To determine the real culprit of this problem, I would like you to run the following command: XXCLONE /DIAG this procedure will create a hex dump file, C:\XXCLONE.DAT which shows the contents of the key sectors (MBR, bootsectors). Please run this command when your target disk is bootable (after you run the recovery console - fixboot) and also after you make the XXCLONE operation (which makes it unbootable). Please send the two files (make sure that you rename the XXCLONE.DAT file after the first run because the second run will overwrite the first one. Please send the files to me for our examination.
