If another program has a file open and locked, then it's off limits to any other program including xxcopy. In general it's a good practice to close all open files and programs before using xxcopy for an extended task, such as backing up your machine. Even then you'll likely discover some files still won't be copied due to their being locked by other programs running in the background. You can view which files are not copied by adding the /oE3 option. See the help for more information on it. By default xxcopy uses the /C option to continue the process if it encounters an error. In this case an error means a file should have been copied, but wasn't for some reason. It does not mean xxcopy will continue if the batch file has an error. John
