I have heard of some programs that can overcome the restriction for certain in use files, such as xxclone, but for any given open file that was opened by any given program it's been my experience that in general, it's a bad idea to even try to copy such files until they've been closed. I recognize that I may have over simplified things when I made the statement that no program could access a locked file, but I did so because Brian only asked the simple question of how to copy open files without giving any specific details. A simple question without any details tends to evoke a simplified answer from me. John
