Thank you John and Kan for your very interesting comments. Would it not be useful that xxcopy stores in a file the paths of the files that were exclusively-opened files? This file could be used by xxcopy it self, for example at the end of a (long) xxcopy operation or a sequence of xxcopy operations. This could be a complementary approach to the retry period method. BTW, how does Xxclone handle such a situation? Dos booting? Could you point to me a document where this is explained? A few weeks ago I have just thrown away Ghost and replaced it with Drive Backup (for me and my customers). I'm still looking for the most reliable cloning solution. Francis
