Make me work why don't you. Seriously, that's essentially correct. However if only the files are missing, the damn thing creats entire new folders LocalService.NT.AUTHORITY & NetworkService.NT.AUTHORITY (& down) for the new files. If somthing is already there in the existing paths it will simply overwrite them. Mysteries... So yes, they're not necessary, but just deleting them isn't the answer either! The DCopy I've been using prior to xxcopy can "Force NT Hives" (.dat) and copy these little ditties. I suppose I should thank you as, ah, a mistake was discovered in how I manually switch boot drives. However... something is always missing from the copy. For instance the Quick Launch wasn't present on the Task Bar (even after Enabling it & coming back to that drive after booting the original again)? But the pisser is, Zone Alarm Pro is somehow linked to it's installed drive & goes brain dead when started on the copy (even after correcting the bugger, updating everything on the copy and trying again). It runs, it just forgets it's Program Control so it's like staring over with a fresh install. Always something to confound things. While I'm thinking about it, what's the opinion on Prefetch? I haven't been bothering with it (and some items won't copy), but I'm always looking for anything to make my copies more complete. And I'm obiously missing something, somewhere, somehow. There are some things Windows doesn't do until it shuts down apparently. And since xxclone copies registry files obviously the technique is known. Why then can't xxcopy gain this knowledge? Anybody know what xxclone does with the files in question here??? Or do I have to test that myself too! DES
