Follow up on this initial boot problem after some more testing of XXCLONE. Having previously cloned a 60gb FAT32 disk to a 200gb NTFS disk and got the initial boot failure (see previous post) I decided to try cloning with identical physical disks (same manufacturer and model) and eliminate bios and cable/jumper settings as the problem. So .. with drive 0 (ide primary 0) as 200 gb NTFS XP pro single ptn I fitted another new 200gb disk as drive 1(ide slave 0) and formatted NTFS. Then performed an XXCLONE using full clone option (1st menu option) of drive 0 to drive 1 - I also used option to have a boot floppy created just in case. After cloning I initialy removed the original drive 0 and tried booting with just the new cloned drive in situ - this failed with message "Press any key to reboot". To eliminate problem being caused by BIOS "remembering" what old boot drive was I reset bios boot specs - still no boot. Then went thru various cable, jumper and single/dual drive configs to see if any of these in comination with old bios settings were causing boot failure. Regardless of setup the cloned drive refused to boot. Finally put config back to original drive 0 source and drive 1 target and used XXCLONE to *just* copy MBR. After this the cloned drive booted fine (initially get the Congratulations dialoge from XXCLONE). Btw I never had to resort to using the XXclone boot floppy. Conclusion: XXCLONE seems to have a problem somewhere setting up the MBR on full clone operations.
