Hi All, Beta Test Ref No: XC 18601. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Running Windows XP Home Edition. 384MB RAM. 1.7 Intel Celeron Processor. Source Drive is 40GB Maxtor Designated as C:\Main System Drive. Dest Drive is 40GB Maxtor. Designated as D:\XXCLONED Drive. Well I will admit that I am more than a little confused and baffled. When I last wrote a couple of days ago, I said that my problems didn't appear insurmountable. How wrong can I get. When I carry out the following: Complete Re-Format of Drive D: the carry out the following using the text shown: After Re- Format: Open Command Window. Enter the following command. Xxcopy C:\ D:\ /backup/b0 When this had finished entered this: Xxclone c: d: /backup0 /bc0 /start When this finished and I then tried Reboot and select option 2 from my Boot.ini which is [Boot Loader] Timeout=5 Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows [Operating System] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="C:XP Home Edition: Windows (Original Vol.) [d:0,p:1]\WINDOWS" /fast detect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="D: XXCLONED XP: Windows (Target Volume) [d:1,p:1]\WINDOWS"/fast detect C:\CMDCONC|BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons Option 2 select the Xxcloned Dest Drive, and previously always booted straight into the XXCLONED drive. Double check system in place. 1: DiskMgmt in the XXCLONE Window. Click on that to check that I am in the Destination D: drive. 2: On Start up a Window Opens to advise Volume in Use. I also have a third within Executive Diskeeper, which when I defrag my drives tells me which drive I am defragging. So I have no worries on that score. I still get this strange. Hal.dll message when I have carried out Xxclone and gone to restart, select option 2. The up pops the message. ============================================================= Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt \system32\hal.dll Please reinstall a copy of the above file. =============================================================== Now that is where I am hitting a brick wall. When I carry out a search of the Source drive for hal.dll I cannot find it. What I can find is HAL.dll. Not being a computer expert or a Software expert, I just don't have a clue if the matter of Upper case letters or lower case letters makes any difference. Is hal.dll exactly the same as HAL.dll Or can anyone advise me how to get my system back on an even keel. Oh! I have read, reread the Manual. I have read it so much the ink has worn off. So if anyone has any clue and or suggestion I would be more than grateful. My sincere thanks in Advance Pat
