HAL.DLL is the Hardware Abstraction Layer. It defines hardware dependent parts of the OS and is critical to the running of windows. See here for some more info if you're interested. http://mipagina.cantv.net/jjaguilerap/w2k_arq.html > When I am in the restart position and it says that I need to > reinstall a copy. > Is it into the Destination drive which I think or does it go > into the source, my apologies in advance if the question > appeared rather Stupid. > > Kind Regards > Sincere thanks in advance > > Pat. I'd assume it is the copy (or lack of it) in the dest drive that is the problem. If there was a problem with the source copy, you wouldn't be able to boot at all. Other than making sure that the copy in the dest is the same as the one in the source, I really can't help. However there is a wealth of topics available if you do a Google search using the error message you reported. I'd suggest that you're the one that's in the best position to search through those and work out what is applicable to your situation. Garry
