The command you want is: xxcopy \src\ \dst\ /backup/sc /backup (or /bu) will copy the source tree complete /sc will copy ACLs and audit info Type xxcopy /bu/sc/? to see a context sensitive list of the switches this command invokes. However here's the downside with /sc: 1. In the past when I've tried to use /sc on NT, non standard permissions were not copied correctly and locked out the directories involved (similar to what you've described for Robocopy). I'm not sure but I think this problem remains although I believe some improvement has been done. 2. The ACL's are different in NT and W2k and I'm unsure how compatible they are. I once tried an xxcopy from NT to W2k using /sc and it failed miserably. I didn't bother to dig deeper at the time so I don't know whether the problem can be overcome. I suggest you give xxcopy a try on some sample data and see how you go. If it fails, try SCOPY from the resource kit. ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/reskit/nt4/x86/ I'm pretty sure that I used this sucessfully when xxcopy failed to copy from NT to W2k. It's pretty basic but that doesn't matter if you're doing a full 'dumb' transfer. Sorry if my answers are a bit vague. I haven't had to worry about copying security info for quite a while. Garry
