I cannot see a reason why DPE.DUS is not being excluded for you, nor can I duplicate the problem here. I even Googled for DPE.DUS to see if there might be anything unique about that file, but other than it being related to HP scanner software, there doesn't seem to be. At this point the only suggestion I have, is for you to add the /oX2 option to your command file, then run your script again and repost the results here one more time. Perhaps by studying the log file, specifically the way xxcopy parses your /X:DPE.DUS exclusion, we can spot why it's not being excluded. It should be parsed to become this exclusion: \\El-Diablo\My Documents\*\DPE.DUS Perhaps a fresh set of eyes on this would reveal the answer. On a different topic, thanks to Pat the revised xxcopy.chm file has been uploaded to the files section of this forum. For reasons I have not been able to uncover, yahoo won't let me upload large files there now. John
