To me CSS stands for "cascading style sheets" so I'm not going to be of any help to you in solving your slow down and stop problem. However I will mention one thing that will likely haunt you once you do get the other bugs ironed out. > > If you are really using the xxcopy syntax of: > > xxcopy C: N: /CLONE > > You are asking for a disaster to take place one of these days, as that is one of the most dangerous ways to use xxcopy. To learn why, read technical bulletin #22 available at: > > http://www.xxcopy.com/xxcopy22.htm > > John ------------------ OK, Sorry- I meant 'CS' not 'CSS'. Must have been a HTMLian slip on my part. CS means 'cable select' - the use of pin28 (I think) on the IDE cable to assign either Slave or Master status to the hard drive. (Excuse the U.S. Politically Incorrect terminology) In any event, the system gets a BSOD even when I try using MS' XCOPY. I'm beginning to think its a hardware problem with my original 10-Gig drive (4 years old). All other copies between the other three hard disks seem to run OK. The sooner I get the data off of this old HD the better! I read your note on the use of root\ usage in the xxcopy. Thanks. Now- What is the easiest, fastest way to copy the boot info and folders from the old hard disk and make the new Hard disk bootable? Would xxcopy C:\ M:\ /clone do it? (M: is the partition zero on the new hard drive) I would then xxcopy D: (my W2K partition) to N: after. Would I then be able to install the new drive as my new master on IDE-0 and boot from it? (I have neither the $$ nor the time to invest in getting a copy of Norton Ghost.) -Thanx.
