I'm mostly talking to myself here to see if something registers. Here's another synchronization problem... they never end. Believe it was Garry who pointed out the /RSY and this 2 pass method to me. I actually use lenghty Command files, including logging and exclusions, but shortening things considerably to get to the point: xxcopy "F:\My Documents\" "\\Cx532597-a\My Documents\" /bz/q/s/y And then a second pass of: xxcopy "\\Cx532597-a\My Documents\" "F:\My Documents\" /rsy/pd0/bz/ed/s/q OK, Thumbs.db files are unique to this side (WinXP) and don't normally exist over there (Win98). They're hidden and hence don't have to be specifically excluded. But... if you ever look across the network in My Network Places, they can get placed on Win98 by WinXP (no kidding, and where they're not hidden). And since they then exist in both locations and are identical except for the hidden attribute they're also not marked for copy and hence not caught in the removal pass. I only picked up on this because I had deleted an image in a subdirectory of WinXP changing the size of that particular Thumbs.db file which then flagged it's accidental & no longer identical twin for removal. I freely admit I haven't been to the Help yet to see if this case is even possible to identify. DES
